Yogurt for Dogs

Posted by Edward Cruz on

Yogurt is a delicious dairy product that will provide some nutritional benefits for your dogs as a meal additive.

Yogurt is well-know to provide probiotic benefits and serves as an excellent source of calcium for our dogs. Adding a small spoonful of yogurt to your pooch’s regular kibble at mealtime can give digestive benefits and even help your dog stay full longer.

Make sure to read all the ingredients label carefully in feeding yogurt to dog. Avoid flavoured yogurts that contains sugar, and never give your dog yogurt that has xylitol, an artificial sweetener that is toxic for dogs. Also avoid chocolate flavoured yogurt since chocolate is toxic to dogs.

Before serving yogurt to your dog, it is best to consult your veterinarian to ensure proper serving suggestions as some dogs have a harder time digesting dairy products. Monitor your after his yogurt consumption and look for any signs of lactose intolerance like: diarrhea, gas, and vomiting. If your dog shows any of these symptoms, call your veterinarian immediately.
