Vet Questions Dog Parents Don’t Ask – But Should

Posted by Edward Cruz on

Here are very important vet questions every pet owner should ask their veterinarian. No pet owner wants to think about if or when his or her dog might need more than a check-up appointment, but it’s necessary to get the answers on hand so that you’re ready for any emergency.

“How do you handle after-hours emergencies?”

Many vet clinics close during the evenings and weekends. It is good to know who your vet trusts to handle emergencies after clinic hours. Ask for an emergency hotline at which you can reach your vet or one of the clinic staff.

“How many vets are associated with the clinic?”

It is best if your clinic has at least two or more vets available during business hours. The way if yours is not available, immediately, there is someone who can aid to your emergency.

“Do you accept pet insurance?”

Pet health bills, specially during an emergency, can be high. Some pet clinics accept pet insurance or offer a payment plan. Ask ahead of time regarding their pricing and billing so that you won’t have to max out your credit card unexpectedly.
